Sunday Goings

So I missed an entire week of blogging...whoops.  A lot has been going on and until this weekend, I could barely keep my head above water.  I just kept telling myself to take things one day at a time.  First, my husband accepted a position with a different company and, although, I am extremely happy for him as it's a great opportunity for him and our family, I'm selfishly sad.  He and I had been working at the same firm for three years and it's been hard not seeing him at the office every day.  It has also added more work load on me and so last week was absolute madness.  We were also suppose to go to Puerto Rico last week and the NIGHT BEFORE we were to flight out, Lucas got the stomach virus...trip cancelled.  He started feeling better the next day which was most important.

After the last two crazy weeks, it felt nice to get a little more dressed up on Sunday to attend a friend's baby shower.  We also had a play date at a gymnastics center later in the afternoon so the weekend was the perfect ending to a hectic week.  I'm still trying to find the right balance in my life right now so I really appreciate those of you who continue to read this little internet space of mine and check up on me.  Here's to a new week and taking things one day at a time.

Neck Candy

I think I've been in and out of the courtroom almost every day lately so my outfits have felt very blah.  I've been gravitating towards bold necklaces too add a little something special to all the button downs and blazers that have become my uniform.  It was during my maternity leave that I found Jane.com, Groopdealz, and Zulily (for Lucas) and it is so hard for me not to want to buy something EVERY day.  Costume jewelry is not something that I like to spend a lot of money on and those websites have become my go to place for pretty necklaces.  For me, a pretty necklace brightens up my mood and makes me feel more feminine especially when wearing pant suits.  If you haven't checked out those websites, you definitely should!

(Nope, not being compensated by those websites as they most likely do not know who I am...but they sure are familiar with my debit card...)

Bows On Repeat

This sweater has been in heavy rotation lately!  I'm not a huge fan of sequins so I almost didn't pull the trigger on this one but I'm so glad that I did.  I just recently started purchasing clothes again after what I think was a 6 month hiatus...6 months!  I'm still refusing to buy any more bottoms as I'm still working on getting back to my pre-pregnancy weight and I know that if I buy any bottoms that I will get too comfortable.  Cheapo Maria does not like seeing my dresser full of J.Crew skirts that sadly still don't fit and I do not want them going to waste.  Nonetheless, with all the after holiday sales going on, I took advantage of the extra discounts and bought clothes for me...and none for Lucas!  It seems, well, it is fact, that the only clothes shopping I have done was for Lucas so it felt kind of nice to buy myself some pretty things.  From now on, I want to only buy things I truly love and not just because it was a great deal and that goes for little Lucas too ;-)  That boys closet rivals mine and he definitely has more clothes than his daddy...can't help how cute baby clothes are...

Checkered Grids

Christmas is just one whole week away and I couldn't be more thrilled.  Luckily, I did almost 95% of my Christmas shopping on Amazon.com and barely had to spend time in the stores.  Score!  This holiday season has been so special because of the obvious that it's Lucas' first Christmas but also because all my sisters will be in town.  Lucas also went to his first playdate on Sunday which was so fun.  We took a group photo of all the babies together which was probably the cutest thing I've ever seen!  Lucas, of course, wanted to grab other babies, and, as a first time mom, this mortified me.  Thankfully, no babies were harmed :-)

Perfect Fall

I took a little blogging hiatus this week but I'm back!  Fall, like most people, is one of my favorite seasons.  I wear sweaters year round but during fall, I don't look like the weirdo dressed for winter in June.  Thanks to Surfdome for sending me this cozy sweater, I've now become obsessed with sweaters that are so comfy they're basically blankets!  Surfdome has many options but I loved this shade of green and I could tell this sweater would be the perfect blend of comfort and coolness as I still live in the ever so changing Florida weather.  Lately the weather has been perfect for comfy oversized sweaters but I've probably just jinxed myself and it will be sweat dripping hot tomorrow...shock.

Flower Power

Lucas came to visit me at work last week!  Our assistant buzzed my phone and said that there was a potential client in the lobby needing me to help them with a family law issue.  We do not take appointments this way so I thought it was odd but because I was on the speaker phone, I couldn't say no.  When I got to the lobby, she said there's your client and it was Lucas in his stroller!  We ate lunch together and hung out a little bit so my co-workers could meet him.  He even semi matched my outfit :-)  Although it was a great surprise, it was hard to see him go back home and me stay behind.  I'm hoping this working and being away from my baby thing gets easier...

Statement Sweater

Is there such thing as a statement sweater?  If so, I think I now own one.  With the different patterns and colors going on in this sweater that I snagged on super sale from J.Crew, it's busy in a good way, I feel.  I love sweater season.  We, Floridians, don't have many days that we can wear jackets and coats but sweaters are the perfect in between.  In fact, it's very common for me to wear and see others wear sweaters and shorts together around here.  It's like we are fighting the warmth because we refuse to accept that we don't have normal seasons here... :-)

Working Mom

Today, I am suppose to work from home but unfortunately an emergency hearing came up so I'm up early to prep and drive to the courthouse.  This is a new me that prefers to be at home.  Of course, being home means being with my baby but before Lucas, I did not like staying home during the day.  My husband used to ask me if I won the lottery would I quit my job and stay at home.  I staunchly would reply that I would never quit my job and that I had worked too hard to fulfill my lifelong dream of being an attorney.  Well, fast forward to the absolute happiness of taking care of my baby and now, I can honestly say that if I won the lottery, I would choose to only work two days.  I really do love my job so I don't think I could ever say that I would completely quit.  Plus, I don't play the lottery.  I think working and being a mom are going to take some time to get used to but, right now, life is good.  Going to the gym will have to wait ;-)

Royal Thanks

These pictures are by no means blog-worthy but there's a reason I'm putting my messy hair, no makeup face, grainy photos on the internet land.  There's also a reason I'm thanking Kate Middleton for inspiring this mommy outfit and helping keep my sanity.  Humor me and allow me to have a little fan moment here.  Dutchess Catherine gave birth a couple days after me.  When she left the hospital with millions of cameras on her, I was sitting in my recliner watching in my pjs, messy hair, undereye circles, and holding a crying newborn.  She was the epitome of grace and just looked so beautiful and at peace.  For a moment, I thought there was something wrong with me.  Here she was hours from giving birth looking amazing and I had been a crying mess looking all kinds of cray cray.  Then I noticed her bump.  I so loved that she didn't wear something that covered her postpartum bump.  Seeing her sport her bump and look graceful gave me hope.  Call me crazy but at that moment, I needed a boost.

It's been weeks of firsts for me and as I mentally prepare myself to return to work next week, crying my eyes out of course, I can't believe how happy and rich my life feels.  Below is just a small fraction of my firsts with Lucas.  I'm looking forward to many more first moments with our new little family!
