Personal Style

There's something about polka dots and stripes that always draws me in.  I recently did a closet cleaning extravaganza and had the intent to get rid of anything that I didn't love and in doing so, realized that I have a crap ton of the same stuff: stripes, polka dots, and chambray.  Now, in rebuilding a bit my closet, I hope to find a new style I love without compromising my own personal style.

I've read a lot of other bloggers writing about the way personal style blogging has changed.  I admit that when I first starting blogging, I thought more about what others would find interesting for me to wear and tailored my own style based on what was popular.  I started this blog to share my personal style and to be inspired so when I found myself considering what was popular over what I liked, I started to not like blogging as much.  As cliche as this is about to sound, as soon as I began growing my pregnancy belly and when Lucas was born, I embraced my own likes and dislikes regardless if others were wearing it.  Now, I'm not saying I'm some sort of innovator as I think my style is pretty safe and simple, I love it and that's what's important.  I don't think I will ever quit my career to blog full-time (I worked pretty darn hard to get where I am!) but I'm having fun sharing these pictures of my clothes for the time being...as silly as that may sound.  Rant OVER :-)

Plaids

I am absolutely smitten with this sweater from Target.  I've had it in my closet for awhile but only just now wore it because I was waiting for these Sole Society shoes to arrive.  I'm weird and "save" outfits even though I swore I would not save outfits anymore.  Does anyone else do that or is it just me?

Sunnies

Sunglasses are one of my favorite accessories.  I've had my eye on a certain style for awhile but with lots of moving, decorating, and home purchases expenses I've been having lately, pricey accessories just are not as important at the moment.  I was so happy that French brand, Polette, a leader on the online optical market, offered to send me one of their sunglasses.  I was even more ecstatic to see Polette carries sunglasses similar to the ones I have eyeing (pun intended) for awhile!  Okay, even MORE ecstatic to see that the price of lenses start from $6.99...seriously.  With highly competitive prices and even customization, it's no wonder that I absolutely love these frames!  I have been wearing these non-stop.  I chose the VIKKI sunglasses and I highly recommend them.  If you would like to check them out, their social media links are at the end of this post.

Still Pineappling

It may be fall where you live but I'm still melting away here in Florida and will continue to sport pineapples on my clothing thankverymuch.  Well, I'll make an exception when someone comes out with a pumpkin sweater pleasepleasepleasepleaseplease!

Falling

It's finally fall which, of course, is my favorite time of the year.  However, it is still hotter than a chicken's coop in Florida but I'm not going to let a blazing hot sun take me down from my fall high.  I'm ready to embrace the changing leaves, football Saturdays, and pumpkin/apple EVERYTHING!  Woot woot!

Bright Stripes

This past Saturday was one of the best days we have had with our little boy.  We took him to Magic Kingdom at Disney World for the first time and I wish I could repeat that day over and over again!  Even though the park was crowded beyond belief, hotter than a chicken's coop, and a tad rainy, we had an unbelievably wonderful time.  Seeing my child light up like a Christmas tree and squeal at the sight of Mickey Mouse was worth it.  I literally had to hold him back so he could wait his turn to meet Mickey.  Magic Kingdom now has an attraction where you basically have a private room with Mickey.  He talks with you, takes pictures, and has one on one time with you and your group.  Lucas couldn't wait to run up to him.  It was so special seeing his eyes bright and talking to Mickey.  It was one of the best moments ever and I am already planning our next trip back!

I've Got Sunshine

I've been on the hunt for tortoise pattern shoes for awhile but I either didn't want to spend a lot or didn't like the fit.  Imaging my surprise when I spotted these online at Target and on sale!  Now, these are probably not going to last awhile but it will hold me over until I decide to spend more.  I think I paid something like $10?!  I'm now on the hunt for beige pointy bow flats since my beloved Me Too Patty flats are too small :-(  Darn pregnancy hormones...

Tropics

So I told my co-worker that I wouldn't be able to eat lunch at the office because I needed to make a quick Target run.  I had found out that Target had in stock hazelnut filled cookies and, obviously, this was an emergency.  Too much money later (doesn't that always happen at Target, or is it just me) I look in my bag and spy this cardigan with pineapples all over it.  PINEAPPLES people!  How stinkin' cute is it?!  At least it is in my opinion.  Because of what I do for a living, I spend a lot of time in the courtroom and who is going to be mean to an attorney wearing a pineapple print cardigan?  I mean really.  I should note that I did not wear this to court.  I'm not sure judges will have the same feeling as I do about pineapples on cardigans.  Crazy, I know.

Outfits of Work Days Past

It's no secret that I've seriously slacked on outfit posts.  Some days we'll take pictures but I just don't find the outfit or pictures blog worthy.  I'm striving to be more inspired and dress up a little more because I do believe that if you feel like you look well, your attitude is better.  I'm starting to work out again and think I've gotten into a routine.  Hopefully, getting into a workout routine will help me in opening up the options in my closet as well.  Oh, and  yes, I am as pale as Casper and will definitely need some sun this summer...

Florals and Grey

After months and months of not buying myself any clothes (pregnancy then post pregnancy weight), I'm finally starting to get the urge to buy a couple pieces to add to my closet.  I've sort of changed my mentality in shopping.  I've never been one to frivolously spend but, now, I'm finding that I only want to buy things if I truly love it and know I can get a lot of use out of it.  99.9% of the time, I shop online and now I triple think before I click the check out button.  If it's not something I love, mother's guilt tells me that I could save the money and put into Lucas' savings account.  Anyways, this rambling is because I saw this shirt at Target and almost didn't buy it but it made me feel happy which is just what I need to get me through long days.

PS: I'm completely aware that this post is one big rambling hot mess ;-)

Sunday Goings

So I missed an entire week of blogging...whoops.  A lot has been going on and until this weekend, I could barely keep my head above water.  I just kept telling myself to take things one day at a time.  First, my husband accepted a position with a different company and, although, I am extremely happy for him as it's a great opportunity for him and our family, I'm selfishly sad.  He and I had been working at the same firm for three years and it's been hard not seeing him at the office every day.  It has also added more work load on me and so last week was absolute madness.  We were also suppose to go to Puerto Rico last week and the NIGHT BEFORE we were to flight out, Lucas got the stomach virus...trip cancelled.  He started feeling better the next day which was most important.

After the last two crazy weeks, it felt nice to get a little more dressed up on Sunday to attend a friend's baby shower.  We also had a play date at a gymnastics center later in the afternoon so the weekend was the perfect ending to a hectic week.  I'm still trying to find the right balance in my life right now so I really appreciate those of you who continue to read this little internet space of mine and check up on me.  Here's to a new week and taking things one day at a time.

Menswear Inspired

Most times, I'm jealous that my husband doesn't have to think much into what he wears to work.  He picks out his suit, shirt, tie and he's dunzo.  Meanwhile, I have to try things on, make sure it fits, wonder the same outfit that same week, etc.  As women, we do get to have more fun with our office wear and I'll take wearing a fancy necklace over a neck tie.  I do enjoy more menswear inspired outfits and have started saving/pinning more of these looks.

Crimson and Leopard

I'm not going to lie, I look like a goober in the top picture.  I look like a little kid on their first day of kindergarten and mom's wanting to take a picture of them in their new outfit.  I have not mastered the art of taking outfit pictures yet and after two years of blogging, I'm not sure I will.  Now, you're probably wondering why I would post this picture if I'm obviously not crazy about it.  Well, I really love blogging and I made a resolution to keep up with it this year.  I love connecting with other bloggers and readers and getting inspiration from you all.  We don't have a lot of time in the mornings so it's slim pickings when I go back and look at the pictures on my camera.  If anyone has any tips on being more photogenic, I'm all ears!  Have a great weekend!

Plaid Stripes Mix

Oof, it had been a couple of dreary gray days last week and I'm amazed I didn't show up in the office in my pjs, makeup however was questionable.  I'm trying to get my morning routine on point but Mr. Lucas has other plans.  I shouldn't complain in the slightest though because that boy likes to sleep!  He usually goes down anywhere from 8-8:30 p.m. and sleeps through the night until about 8 a.m.  However, when he wakes up he will let you know...he is quite the little talker.  So getting ready in the morning means getting up an hour and a half earlier so I can get everything ready.  I always say I'm going to get everything ready the night before but that never happens.

Bows On Repeat

This sweater has been in heavy rotation lately!  I'm not a huge fan of sequins so I almost didn't pull the trigger on this one but I'm so glad that I did.  I just recently started purchasing clothes again after what I think was a 6 month hiatus...6 months!  I'm still refusing to buy any more bottoms as I'm still working on getting back to my pre-pregnancy weight and I know that if I buy any bottoms that I will get too comfortable.  Cheapo Maria does not like seeing my dresser full of J.Crew skirts that sadly still don't fit and I do not want them going to waste.  Nonetheless, with all the after holiday sales going on, I took advantage of the extra discounts and bought clothes for me...and none for Lucas!  It seems, well, it is fact, that the only clothes shopping I have done was for Lucas so it felt kind of nice to buy myself some pretty things.  From now on, I want to only buy things I truly love and not just because it was a great deal and that goes for little Lucas too ;-)  That boys closet rivals mine and he definitely has more clothes than his daddy...can't help how cute baby clothes are...

Blue Pop

And the hair is chopped!  My hair grows super fast and I'm not a fan of long hair upkeep so a cut was in order last weekend.  Lucas also picked up the habit of yanking my hair, thus, I now understand the term "mom hairdo" which is quite literally a boy short hair cut.  I can't pull off boy short hair though.  I've successfully dedicated an entire post on hair so I think end this rant now while I'm ahead ;-)

Five Months Old

Happy Three Kings Day!  So I'm way behind on Lucas' 5 month update!  Life has been fast lately and, I can't say it enough, time needs to slow down.  Lucas has grown into such a fun little personality!  He LOVES to smile and laugh so much that he gets hiccups and runs out of breath.  He's fitting snugly into 6-12 month clothing so he's pretty large and in charge.  He's really into playing and interacting with others so he's very much the center of our world right now.  The working mommy guilt is on high lately since he now realizes when he is getting dropped off in the mornings.  Plus, because I'm not emotional enough, my mom taught him to wave goodbye which makes me turn into mush as soon as I get in the car to drive away.  My mom also told me that when he started to cry a little during the day, she swears she heard him saying "mama, mama."  Tears, always tears.  Fingers crossed that I win a lottery or stumble upon an unclaimed lotto ticket because this working momma wants to be home.

Houndstooth and Stripes

Hmm, now looking at these photos, this dress is a wee a lot on the short side.  For me to be comfortable, dresses and skirts have to be exactly at the knee length.  I will sometimes wear tights for dresses, like this one, where it's almost at the knee.  Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on how you look at it, Florida is back to the warm weather so tights are not an option right now.  I'm hoping for cooler temperatures so that, you know, it feels like winter time.

Leopard Blues

It's been a couple months since I've worn my Chanel bag, or any other handbag that isn't a diaper bag.  Since I was going to work, I felt safe enough to take it out again.  The thought of putting a dirty diaper or bottle in my nice bags drives me nuts.  My husband told me that when he bought me my LV Neverfull last year for Christmas, he and the saleswoman got to talking about my pregnancy.  She told him that the Neverfull would make the perfect diaper bag.  Um, noooooo.

Navy, Black, and Polka Dots

Isn't it hard to believe that Thanksgiving is next week?  This year is just flying by!  The most amazing year of my life is almost at its end.  Christmas is my favorite holiday so I've started decorating already!  I posted some of my holiday decorating photos on my instagram account a week or two ago.

Coincidentally, my little sister produced her very first Saturday Night Live segment about the very subject of decorating/celebrating the holidays before Thanksgiving!  It was such a hilarious piece!  We are so very proud of my baby sis for doing an amazing job.  Here's the link to the video:  Saturday Night Live - Mr. Senior.  Let me know what you think after you watch it!
