The Happy Birthday Girl

I could have picked another picture to post up there but nope!  I want to show you in all my glory how thrilled I was to turn 32 yesterday and have to work all day on my birthday.  #keepingitreal #allgrownup

Despite turning into an old lady and having to go to work, I actually had a pretty great day.  I think I was eating the whole day because as soon as I got into my office, my wonderful co-worker had fully stocked my drawers with tons of candy, cannolis, and cupcakes.  For dinner, my mom cooked my favorite meal and funfetti cake which is the bestest cake in all of the land.  Then the eating didn't stop when I got home because my sweet hubby gifted me with chocolate covered fruit.  I was spoiled with lots of gifts and love from friends and family and Lucas even told his daddy to get me a new handbag.  He is such a sweet boy.  Soooo, turning 32, was not so bad of a day.

Mirror Mirror

Yeah, I need to buy a new mirror and once I do, I need to keep it clean.  Anywhos, I've had a bad cold that my dear son has graciously passed on to me and instead of resting up, I'm in appellate brief drafting land...and clearly not cleaning any mirrors.  Thank goodness for long weekends!

Shoe Shopping: Tory Burch Caroline Flats

Ahhh, shoe shopping again has been wondrous.  'Wondrous' is a word.  Look it up.  Anyshoes, this former non-shoe lover is currently loving getting to rebuild my shoe collection.  During the last couple months of my pregnancy, I wore the bejesus out of my Tory Burch Revas.  They were the only shoes that fit at the time so I know that I will get a lot of use out of my new Tory Burch Caroline Elastic Trim Ballerina Flats.  These are by no means shoes new to the Tory Burch collection but I read mixed reviews and wanted to put out there for anyone interested in these that they are hella comfy!  I find them to be true to size and dare I say more comfortable than my Revas.  The back of the shoe hits at a weird spot on my ankle but I'm sure the patent and elastic just need to be broken in like my other flats.  I'd love to hear anyone's suggestion for breaking in shoes.

Oversized

Happy New Years Eve!  I have big plans of warming up my favorite pjs and watching Bravo shows all night long.  Seriously.  Okay, I cannot tell a lie but I may just throw away all of the shirts in my closet and replace them with oversized shirts.  For reals.  The way I see it, I can continue eating Nutella out of the jar since my oversized shirts will conceal my growing mid section!  In all honesty, I'm feeling this oversized top and plan on purchasing many more.

Lunch Break

Who is this person and why isn't she dressed in her husband's gym clothes or pajamas?  Yep, I managed to wear real clothes and out of my husband's pajamas on Saturday and I felt incredibly guilty for it.  My mother-in-law watched Lucas for me and my husband on Saturday so that we could go out for lunch and basically get me out of the house.  It is ridiculous how emotional I get thinking about being apart from my baby.  I've only been away from him two times and for only an hour each time.  The first time I left the house, I cried.  And you would have thought I was going on vacation for how much I cried.  We literally went to eat ONE mile down from our home and at a restaurant that is in our neighborhood.  I cried nonetheless.  Don't even get me started on thinking about going back to work.  I cry at least once a day thinking about it.  Thankfully, I will be working from home one day  out of the week and my husband a different day then the days we're both at the office, my mom will be watching him.  I'm so blessed that my mom has offered to watch Lucas.  I know he will be in great hands and when he gets older, he'll be eating all her great Puerto Rican cooking that I grew up on.

Despite feeling guilty about going out to eat lunch, it eventually felt good to be outside and in real clothes.  Later this week, I made an appointment to use the spa gift card my husband gave me for our anniversary.  I'll be gone for two hours and will need to mentally prepare myself starting now.  I know...I'm going to the spa  not the dentist's office but not even the spa tops spending time with my little guy.  Motherhood is a crazy thing...an amazingly crazy thing.

Capitol Hill

Linking up today with Marionberry Style!  There was a time when my closet solely consisted of black and white.  Seriously.  Black and White only.  Black and white attire is my safe and comfort zone but I grew tired of the usual.  Even though I've incorporated much more color into my wardrobe, black and white will always be my go to colors.  Heck, my wedding colors were even ivory and black.  Do you have any go to colors?

Walk Like an Egyptian

So this is going to be the weirdest and most will think vain post ever but here goes.  Although these are pictures of what I wore to work, my post today is about my amazing co-worker, Mary, who now lives in Cairo.  Yeah, so the pictures having nothing to do with my post except it's what I wore to work and Mary used to work at my office...

Anyhow, when I moved back home to work at my firm, as soon as I walked through the doors, Mary and I clicked immediately.  We share the same sense of humor, tv shows, everything.  Soon, other co-workers joined our now little family which made going to work enjoyable.  After working together for two years, Mary, was accepted to graduate school in Egypt.  It was such an amazing opportunity but, selfishly, I was sad to see her go.  Thankfully, Mary has been blogging about her experiences as a way to help other students or foreigners looking to visit Egypt.  I've learned so much about Egypt through reading her blog and definitely hope to visit Egypt in my lifetime.

If you're interested, I highly encourage you to check out her blog Mary in Cairo.

Sunny Disposition

My trusty Kate Spade work bag has gone everywhere with me.  My dad bought it for me when I was in law school and now it holds all my goodies and court files. Ordinarily, I would have worn a handbag that perfectly matched this outfit but I don't always perfectly match when going to work. This bag is so functional that I don't even think about whether or not it "matches" that day or not. I call it my Mary Poppins bag but I'm constantly reminding my husband that it isn't a backpack as he hands me tons of papers and crap to stuff in my bag for him.  Maybe I should get him a man bag?  Hmmm... :-)  If I'm a little slow answering emails/comments please accept my apologies.  I have big things going on at work but will be back to my old self after Wednesday!

Grandfather Shirt

A couple years ago, my grandfather came from Puerto Rico to stay with my parents for a little while.  I was living in Jacksonville at the time but would come visit every weekend to spend time with him.  He used to wear a shirt, similar to the one I'm wearing, all the time to the point it got a hole in it.  He asked me to throw the shirt away since he couldn't wear it anymore but I must have gotten it mixed in with my laundry since I found it in my suitcase when I got back home.  He passed away shortly after but I never threw the shirt away and keep it on my blanket throw stand for safe keeping.  It's an odd memento to keep but warms my heart whenever I catch a glimpse of it.  Has anyone else kept odd mementos?

Classically Headless

It was a headless kind of day.  The kind of day where I had no inspiration to think, thus I turned to my J Crew catalog, and no makeup to cover up the under eye circles.  My hubby says that my head being chopped in most of the photos was on accident but I know the truth.  You see, there are these things called mirrors and I may or may not have glanced in them one or twice throughout the day.  Bless his little heart.
I'm not one to reapply makeup during the day so that doubled with the fact that I barely even put on makeup in the morning did not turn out well.  It's just one of those days...

A Hoot

Whenever I visited my family in Puerto Rico and stayed at my grandmother's house, my mom's little sister would lend us her room for us to sleep.  My sisters and I loved sleeping in her room because she would let us play with her makeup, jewelry, and play dress up.  Another thing I really loved about her room was her collection of owls.  She had tons of owl figurines.  Growing up, I took a liking to owls because it reminded me of being young and my aunt's owl collection.  When I saw that this GAP blouse had little owls on it, I was smitten.  Then when I saw how cute it looked on Beach Chic Style, I knew this shirt and I were meant to be!

What wasn't meant to be...all the dry shampoo I failed to properly mix in my hair...holy gray hair!

Miss Matched

Has anyone ever gotten dressed in the dark?  I have and did today.  I feel like I have two outfits on at once (like the top part should be worn with jeans and the bottom part with something more polished).  By the end of the week, I'm feeling uninspired which is when I just throw on something that somewhat resembles a work appropriate outfit.  Ugh, come on weekend!

Fall for Neon

I petition to the fashion police and fashion gods to allow neon to be an acceptable fall color.  I'm impatient so I've decided to incorporate little bits and pieces of neon into fall.  It's still August but I'm already looking forward to fall weather, fall fashion, and college football!

Pattern Mixing

I'm linking up today with Marionberry Style's Trend of the Month which is pattern mixing.  I originally planned to wear a black skirt with this but I chose to wear pants and look at that, I managed to get myself all wrinkly again.  I think I need a steamer in my office.  Oh and I am wearing a necklace it's just hiding in the photos.  I like mixing different patterns together and have been staring at my closet more and more to see what else I can mix up!

I also wanted to share the gift my hubby gave me yesterday for our two year anniversary!  From the mr. to his mrs. :-)

Gotta Wear Shades

It comes to no surprise to those who know me that I'm obsessed with sunglasses.  When Firmoo contacted me about their sunglasses, they had me at sunglasses.  Full disclosure: Firmoo sent me the sunglasses for free but my opinions are 100% my own.

I really like this pair I chose because they are lightweight and not tight around my ears.  If there is anything I hate more in sunglasses, it's that they give me a headache from squeezing the sides of my head too tight.   I chose this pair because of the shape and for the price.  I always feel anxious if I take my more expensive glasses out to the beach, for example.  They can get stolen, broken, scratched, etc.  I look forward to taking my Firmoo glasses with me to lay out and on days I feel retro!  I'm not crazy about the case that came with the glasses because they don't fit, but for the price and the glasses overall, I think it is definitely worth it to check out other Firmoo glasses.

Firmoo also wanted me to share that the company launched a program offering free eyewear for first time buyers.  Not too shabby for a pair of great sunglasses :-)

Fashionspirations: Pinterest

Sometimes, I can't think for myself and it's easier to look at my Pinterest boards for help.  Olivia Palermo just happens to be pinned a lot in my Pinterest boards...I want her closet people!

I laughed when I saw the pin below because it is exactly how I feel.
