The Day My Toddler Locked Me Out of My House

Check out that smug look up there.  I felt pretty put together.  Work went okay.  I got a lot done.  I picked up Lucas after work and then drove home.  I got home and lit up a delightful candle my sister gifted me me.  The dog made a mess while we were gone so I opened the bathroom door to clean up the mess.  My husband calls and says he will be little longer because he was picking up dinner.  No. Big. Deal.  I grab some trash and go into the garage to throw said trash away and then my heart drops.  BOOM. CLICK.  LUCAS LOCKED ME OUT!!!  I, of course, go into freak out mode.  THE CANDLE!  THE BATHROOM DOOR IS OPEN!  THE DOG IS WITH HIM!  I tried my best to calmly ask him to unlock the door to no avail.  He begins to wail and scream.  I haven't met my new neighbors yet but what better way to introduce myself than to run barefoot towards their house completely drenched in sweat and tears?  They kindly let me use their phone so I could call my hubby and tell him to slam on his breaks.  So good news is I know who my neighbors are.  Bad news, they think I'm crazy.  I run back to the house and, in this very outfit, proceed to try to break the door down.  The whole ordeal couldn't have been more than 7 minutes but it felt like an eternity.  My husband opened the door from the other side and came home to me and Lucas both screaming.  So right before Mother's Day weekend, I have an EPIC MOM FAIL!  I can't explain what a horrible experience that was and just thinking about how scared Lucas must have been makes me cry all over again.  Ugh.  At least I looked put together today ;-)

  1. Oh no that must have been horrible for you! My son is obsessed with opening and closing doors at the moment..sometimes he will swing a door shut and then crawl right up to it so I can't push it open again...many times he has trapped me in the bathroom haha. At least you looked good while the day went a little crazy, and it all had a happy ending :)

    1. I had imagined baking brownies and going to introduce myself. Definitely not by screaming and crying on their porch lol

  3. At least you looked fabulous during your freak out :) But really, my mom locked herself out of the house when I was about 3 and we live in the middle of the country...so no neighbors to run to and we didn't have cell phones either! She had to break a window in her bedroom just to get back inside-so at least there weren't any broken windows :)

  4. You look gorgeous and your story gave me a mini sympathy heart attack. I cannot imagine how scared you were. I've been paranoid about this happening lately so I gave our neighbor a house key to our house. Hope we can both avoid any locks outs this summer :)
