Pattern Overload

Sweater: Ann Taylor  /  Shirt: J Crew  /  Jeans: AE  /  Shoes: Ann Taylor  /  Bag: Louis Vuitton 'Neverfull GM'

So I put myself on a shopping ban.  Yep.  That's right.  A Shopping BAN!  So far so good.

This year, we will be adding a new family member so I want to be smarter about my finances.  For as long as I can, I will only be buying essentials.  Now, do realize that my waist line is expanding so I did cheat a little by buying a maternity suit.  I consider buying the suit an essential because I have to wear it at least once or twice a week and none of my other suits fit.  For Christmas, my husband absolutely spoiled me so I consider that to be my last hooray.  As for maternity clothes, many family members bought me different items of clothes or gift certificates so I think I'm okay on the maternity clothes for a bit.  I'm interested to see how long I can last!

Has anyone else gone on a shopping ban and, if so, any tips?

  1. I did a 3-month shopping ban at the beginning of 2012. It wasn't nearly as difficult as I expected it to be. I realized that I am way too busy to go shopping, so I didn't really miss it. Good luck!

  2. good luck with the shopping ban! I feel like I might need to try something like that as well!

  3. I have not....but I definitely need to...ASAP! A fashion blogger's lifestyle is pretty crazy! Looking great girl! Love the mix of patterns! Hope you're feeling good!

  4. great layering and love the LV bag :)

  5. I went on one and lasted three days :( I think because it was on my mind all the time but this week I'm on a selling binge, so when I go spend some time with my best friend in Nashville we can go shopping!

  6. Love the polka dots and gingham together! I think I'm going on a shopping ban too...I really need to budget and shop my own closet instead.

  7. I feel like these two patterns go together perfectly, so it's not an "overload" at all! And those shoes are so cute!

  8. Love the print mixing here! I am on a shopping ban too:) We'll see how long it lasts:)

  9. I'm not sure I'm banning myself, but I'm definitely cutting way back and only buying things I need as opposed to buying things for the heck of it. It's hard! But definitely necessary if you are trying to save for say, a baby or a wedding or a house!

Love this outfit Maria. You have on the bag I'm saving for!

  10. love this!

  11. I was also on a shopping ban and it was actually easier than I thought. My tips and keep remixing your outfits by pairing new things together, different accessories etc., using leggings, long flowy tops and belts since you've got a baby bump -- and above all -- try to avoid stores at all costs! That's the one that really worked for me b/c if I didn't see new clothes in stores I wouldn't be tempted to want anything new. Also -- organize your closet by color and style so it feels like you can shop your closet every morning. Another good tip that I use myself! xo

  12. we do a shopping ban once a year for six-eight weeks. the beginning is tough but it gets easier . . . promise!!
it feels good once you get into the groove! good luck!

love this look on you too! casual & print-tastic!!!

  13. I noticed your beautiful Coach Kristin Hobo bag on some of your older posts. It is a beauty, could you tell me what color leather that is? It is gorgeous!

    1. Thank you! I'm not sure on the color but it isn't the dark brown that Coach usually carries. I think 'Cognac'?

    2. It is beautiful! You have such great style! Love reading your blog! Thank you!

  14. Cute ballet flats with a touch of pink! Best of luck to you on your shopping ban!

  15. The outfit is so chic! Love that you paired it with that particular cut of jeans!
