New Year, New Me

Shirt: J Crew  /  Sweater: Gap  /  Pants: Talbots  /  Handbag: Kate Spade  /  Necklace: J Crew

Why hello there and happy new year!  Did you have any resolutions for the new year?  I had one and it's pretty simple...snap out of it!  Admittedly, since I learned that I was pregnant about 2 1/2 months ago, I got into a deep dark funk.  Not because I am not ecstatic about the lil one we're expecting in the summer but because I got really sick and just felt crappy overall.  My blogging was sporadic because I wasn't dressing up for work, my hair and makeup was a mess, and I just stopped caring.  Well, I am by no means the first pregnant woman that still has to work full time so I've decided to quit the pity party and snap out of it.

I am now looking forward to blogging more regularly because I really want to look back to see the growth of this already ginormous belly.  For how early I am in my pregnancy, my belly is big.  The picture in this post was taken three weeks ago and it makes me sad to look at it because those pants no longer fit me.  I didn't anticipate my belly growing so quickly.  I even had to tell my cousin I couldn't be in her wedding this past December because I no longer fit in my bridesmaid dress.  Although it sucked to not be in the wedding, it just means I have a healthy and growing baby so that makes me very happy.

During my blogging break, I started ready some "mommy" blogs and I discovered something...I'm the worst preggo mommy.  I seriously had a panic attack when I learned that I was eating things I shouldn't be and using the wrong soaps, etc.  No judgment please! :-)  Needless to say, I need to buy some books and read up quick.  Don't worry, I won't be dishing out any advice because, let's be honest, I know nothing.

This has turned out to be a longer post than usual!  Thank you again and I hope you all had a great holiday season!

  1. I'M SO HAPPY YOU'RE BACK!!! Let me just say, having zero experience with babies and having never been pregnant, I think you're a rockstar. And also, if that baby's anything like me, it's gonna eat Elmer's glue and stick peas up its nose, so don't stress too much ;)

  2. Being sick sucks. Hopefully it won't last too long for you. I was sick for nearly my entire pregnancy. However, I was glad I was able to work up until the day before I was induced. It helped me to focus on something other than the fact that I did not feel good and gave me a reason to get up and get ready in the morning. Puking in the restrooms at the courthouse was awful, though, I'm not going to lie. Fortunately, that only happened a couple of times.

  6. Congrats on your pregnancy! It's tough, but imagine what a great diary you will have to document while blogging. In regards to all the books out there, go with your heart and your gut :)

  7. I had to tell my best friend I couldn't be in her wedding because I couldn't fit into my dress I bought two sizes bigger (and still wouldn't zip) and that was two weeks before her wedding. I felt terrible. I agree don't go crazy on what you can and can't do...I followed the mercury thing in fish but come on....do you think our parents followed those rules and we turned out fine.

  9. Don't beat yourself up! I knew nothing going into this either but between books, blogs, websites(sign up for Baby Center and I love the What to Expect app.), I know a little more than I knew before. As far as the pants go, mine weren't fitting me by this point either and it wasn't even my growing belly- it was my expanding hips and butt! It's all part of the journey but it's all well worth it in the end. I think once you start reading you will feel a whole lot better!

  11. Nothing like reading other people's parent blogs to feel crappy about yourself I say lol! You're doing fine and you're an obviously smart woman; you'll figure it out :) It's all a journey. When I was pregnant I didn't care too much what I looked like at work either; it was kind of survival at that point. But the good news is you'll definitely feel better afterward. You'll love getting back to your old things and holding your baby :)

  14. Sweetie, don't be so hard on yourself! You are doing great I'm sure! I think there's so much information out there now about what you should eat, what you should avoid, how to do this and not do that...I'm sure I will feel overwhelmed too when I get pregnant! I think you look beautiful :) I can't wait to read more about your journey!

  18. so I haven't ever been pregnant but I have spent some time reading mommy blogs and let me just say, unless you are sitting in a smoky bar for 45 hours a week, I'm sure you aren't doing anything wrong. the best thing you can do for our baby is not stress out too much :)

  19. Happy New Year Maria! You will feel better after the 1st trimester. I was the same way - I was like a bear and needed to take constant naps. I would take breaks at work and nap in my car for 10-15 minutes every couple of hours. I can't wait to see what you come up with as we watch your baby grow :)

You look great, don't worry about your growing belly...it's the one time when it's totally okay for us to put on some weight. I always embraced that to the fullest!:) I hope you had a very Happy New Year!!!

  22. I ate so many "wrong" things during pregnancy, did not read ANY pregnancy books, and wanted nothing to do with birth until it came down to the day. I now have a happy and beautiful almost two year old girl. :) You'll figure things out on your own and it will be such a fun experience! I'm looking forward to reading more as you get further into the pregnancy!
